Tips for Organizing a Youth Soccer Team to Success
Posted on January 18th, 2010 No commentsWhen leading a soccer team, the organization of the sports team can often be the least fun part. You have to balance your players needs, with your coach’s needs, with your league’s requirements and finally, with the parent’s needs. With such a large cast of characters with sometimes competing interests, organizing this chaos isn’t easy. Here are just a few organizing (non-coaching) tips to help you get organized and to help ensure your soccer team accomplishes its goals.
Steps
1. Get the team roster down. Make sure you get every participant’s key information like their preferred contact method (email, cellphone, etc.). Set up an email list using services like http://www.qlubb.com so that everyone can send an email to the group email address rather than having to list everybody’s email address. Publish the roster on the web so that people can get to know each other, set up carpools, and have their own side conversations etc.
2. Get the 911. Set up the call tree so that you can get in touch with people when it counts. People’s preferred method of communication should be taken into account. Last minute rain outs of games and other postponements require a quick and reliable response so that nobody gets stuck. Maintain this roster online so that everyone has the most up-to-date contact information.
3. Understand your goals. Have that first team meeting where everyone can get acquainted but most importantly get agreement on the goals. Are you out to win the championship or to learn and have fun? Who is the right person to coach the team? Prior to any meeting you should do some informal polling and discussion so that you can go to the team meeting prepared.
4. Ask for volunteers. Don’t get stuck doing everything. People are really willing to help if asked. At every meeting look for a chance to recruit volunteers, especially based on any skills they might have. Some parents may have good soccer skills and can be an assistant coach during practice. Online sign up sheets are very useful so that everybody knows what’s been taken and what’s left to do and they can sign up on their own time.
5. Create the master schedule. Get a master schedule online published as soon as possible. It should include all practices, games and tournaments. Putting it online cuts down on needless email chatter and eliminates miscommunication. Be sure to include location, times and who is responsible for what. Look at ways to defray costs through activity fees, bake sales/car washes, sponsorships from local sports stores, subsidies from sports equipment manufacturers, etc.
7. Build on the community. A sports team is comprised of a group of people that form a community around the common interest of sport. However, over time as people get to know each other, bonds strengthen. Fostering the community through things like photo sharing, team picnics, after game dinners are a great way to have fun while also improving trust and teamwork.
8. Do something special. Getting your team excited about the sport can help enrich the experience. If the professionals are having a tournament in town, arrange for a field trip. If you are budget conscious, you can see some great competition at the college level. Most sports have a hall of fame that you could arrange a field trip to. And if you ask around you might be able to find a pro in the area who might donate some time to run a guest practice session or to give a pep talk.
9. Broadcast your accomplishments! Put up a public web page and talk about your wins! Nothing makes a team more proud than to let people know what you accomplished. 10. Ask for feedback. Keep an open dialog with everyone and be flexible. It’s important to listen. Soccer teams live for months to years and needs change all the time. A good leader will be able to anticipate these needs by constantly listening and thinking ahead. -

However, you are not after some bodybuilder leg muscles. It is therefore vital for you to combine your leg training with ball training. One way is to lift weights one day and practice on shooting next day. By practicing like this you will be able to increase your muscle mass while you will maintain your flexibility and adaptability on the soccer field.
Shooting with accuracy – Shooting doesn’t only mean kicking the ball with great force. What is more vital is to kick the ball with accuracy. If you can’t kick the ball with accuracy then how do you then expect to get it on the goal? Of course, you may have luck and get one of this great hard shoots but believe me; you will score many more goals by having a solid accuracy.
Different methods for shooting – You should not only focus on improving one type of shoot. While practicing on your shooting skills you should try to use your instep, outside, and inside of foot. You can’t just limit yourself to one shooting method as different situations require different types of shoot. For ex; it is better to shoot with the inside of your foot from 8-12 yards range. However, 20 + yards ranges are perfect for instep shoots.
Analyze your game – You should try to analyze your performance after every soccer game. You may for ex use a block and take notice on how many goals (if you scored any

By analyze your own performance you will be able to spot mistakes and correct them in the next game. Watch LIVE or Professional Games on TV – This exercise doesn’t require any physical efforts. However, you should try to watch professional soccer matches as often you can. Bring a note block and write down from which positions the professional players are shooting, which part of foot they use, what they to after the shoot and so on.

Having Patience – While practicing on your juggling skills you need to have patience. Realize that juggling a soccer ball is something that takes time and you can’t expect to master it directly. Instead, you should take every day as a chance to increase your juggling skills.
Practicing often and regularly – If you want to become good at soccer juggling I would recommend you to practice about thirty minutes per day. I can ensure you that after 4-5 weeks you will notice great improvement in your soccer juggling skills.
A small ball is good – Using a smaller ball to juggle will increase your skills greatly. However, juggling with a small ball is much more difficult than juggling with a regular one. My own experience is that after using a small ball to juggle for 30-40 min the regular one will feel clumsy and heavy. You will also notice that juggling with the regular one is easier than before.
Don’t lose your focus on the ball – The most important thing while juggling is to keep your focus on the ball. You need to close out everything around you and only focus only on keeping the ball in the air. However, this is not so easy and you will need many hours of practice to learn how to do it.

Soccer Tips On Blocking And Drills

The game is played with two teams of 11 players each. Some people have said, that it is one of the most exciting and fun games to watch in the world. The objective of the game is to score the most goals.
The game originated in England and has since spread in popularity across the world. The ball is dribbled with the players feet rather than their hands. The ball is then passed with feet to another player or into the goal.
If you enjoy watching and playing soccer, you are aware that the defense of the ball is the secret of the game. Coaches work on strategizing ways that they have the team work together in defense of the ball so that the opposing team does not score.
Often coaches will ask team members to work on individual lines of defense as well as working as a team to defend the ball. There are essentially two ways to block the ball and they are blocking and tackling on the side.
The slide tackle is banned on some youth soccer teams because it is dangerous. Just as it sounds, a slide tackle is used to slide into your opponent and get the ball away from your opponents feet. It should only be done as a last resort because it can harm you as well as the other player.
If the grass is wet, or muddy, you have less chance of an injury with a slide tackle. Only use the lower part of your body to slide, otherwise you will more than likely injure yourself. Keep in mind that the object is not kick or trip your opponent in anyway.
Soccer blocking is used by the goal keeper to knock the ball away with his hands. It is a relatively safe way to block the ball without causing injury.
The goal keeper can use his hands and arms to block within the goal area. He is the only player that can use his hands and arms. Players are forbidden to use their hands but can use any other part of their body to move the ball.
Keep in mind that it is unlawful to impede your opponent from playing so any blocking or slide tackling should be done carefully. Otherwise, you will be hit with a penalty kick which will essentially give your opposing team a point.
You may use your body to essentially shield the ball from other players without having direct contact. This will help you maintain possession of the ball. This is a safe way to defend the ball.
Any and all of these tactics should be practiced. You should always consult your coach before trying any of these maneuvers to make sure you are performing them correctly.
Soccer drills are an important part of the game. They need to be developed and practised. If you have ever played or watched soccer, you know that the players need aggressive play strategies in order to get the ball. It is not a sport that is meant for the shy. There are a variety of drills you can do to practice that will make you a better player and sportsman.
A great drill to practice playing soccer with is called Get Control. The coach will need to divide the players into two teams. Then balls are thrown up and out into the air, players are responding for gaining control of the ball without using your hands or arms. The player is then responsible for putting the ball into play by passing it or attempting to score a goal.
If a player is unable to put the ball into play then he will suffer some consequences such as a lap around the field or push ups. Every player should have a chance to get the ball and put it into play.
Another great drill is ball protection. For this drill, partners are assigned. You work with your partner to dribble the ball back and forth and to practice moving with the ball. Then give your partner feedback as well as advice on how they can improve by either moving faster or volleying the ball at a quicker pace.
Another fun drill is close and protect. Once again, you will practice with a partner and you need to essentially, get control of the ball and keep it. This is not meant to be a drill for bullys but you do need to play aggressively to maintain control of the ball.
Or, another variance on this drill is to have one player attempt to gain control of the ball from the other player by maneouvering his body safely, and obtaining the ball legally. This is a true test in patience and ease of movement.
Another drill that is a true test of skill is called the push and steal drill. This drill needs close supervision to assure that players are playing fairly.
The coach and assistant coach will each a ball and the players line up and attempt to retrieve the ball fairly. The coach may move and dribble the ball down the field and the players line up one at a time and move with the coach and the ball and attempt to get it.
Keep in mind that these drills are meant to teach players to move and play fairly with the ball. At times, the drill may get out of hand and the coach will need to intervene to assure that no one gets hurt or that the game gets out of hand.
