Why is David Beckham considered to be world class?
Posted on March 21st, 2011 12 commentsWhy is David Beckham considered to be world class when clearly he isn’t (and never has been) anywhere near as good as the likes of Zidane, Figo, Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Gerrard and Riquelme (To name a few)? I think it’s because he’s English and England always hypes up pretty good players to be brilliant ones. What do you think?

but…im not very sure why that is tho. lol -
He’s damn good at marketing and self-promotion. But now no top European club is willing to take him as he’s charging too much just to have him for the draw value.

To begin with, here are some facts about David,
For Man U,
– Starred for Man U at a tender age of 17 yrs.
– Played a pivotal role in the historic 1999 TrebleAs we all know, Man U is a world class team. To make a 1st team appearance at age 17 is a testimony of David’s potential. He also contributed greatly to the Treble, just the way Zidane and the other greats helped their teams win titles.
For England,
– 5th most capped player in England history
– The 9th player in World Cup history to score 2 direct free kicks
– Scored in 3 different World Cups
– 1st cap at age 21The above highlights his longevity in international football as well as his importance to the team.
He is a great player in his way. Thou not as skilful as Zidane, Figo or the rest, he contributes thru his work rate, dedication, passing, dead ball skills… etc
If u r looking for entertaining soccer, David is not the one. In terms of contribution to the team and soccer, David has certainly proved himself to be worthy of worlf class.

simply because of his inch perfect crosses ..and his right-legged bending free-kicks frm juss outside da penalty area…he is simple but a very effictive midfielder ..does no step overs..or tricks..plain n simple crosses right to da centre-forward’s feet..juss to tap the ball in..thts y he is considersd a world class player ! u can see how much england miss him right away with thier poor performance in da recent months ..emphisizing da fact that he is truly a world class player !!!

I’m thinking you’re around my age (15), because sometimes I ask myself the same question. The truth is, however, that he really is or at least was, a world-class player. We probably weren’t old enough to watch him play when he was amazing.
In the early 1990’s David made strong contributions to ManUtd’s winning of the Treble. If you go back and watch some games of his you’ll notice that he’s got a great free-kick and is also pretty good at organizing attacks and getting his teammates involved in the game.
I watched England games all the time when he was on the squad (2000ish) and I always kinda got frustrated when the team didn’t bring in results. Sometimes I’d blame Beckham cause he was captain, but my dad always told me that he was so fun to watch when he was younger.
I think he’s world-class. you gotta give him credit. don’t you think?

I don’t like Beckham much either but I have to admit he was a very good player in his Manchester United years. The ability he had for free kicks was world class and a lot better then most other players in the time.

It is unquestionable that he’s a player of world calibre. However, he’s not the like of Zindane or Ronaldinho. Perhaps, what made him world class is simply because he’s awesomely handsome that even Hollywood stars cannot rival. For me, generally, his play is good, worth seeing, but less worth than C.Ronaldo, and other likes.
