What’s so great about scoring a goal in soccer when the net is so large?
Posted on December 22nd, 2009 8 commentsJust look at the players, they celebrate like they’ve won a million dollars. I’d rather hit the post in hockey, then score in soccer.

It’s a big field and their are 11 players who can all run about the same speed. Try it. I like both sports and find them equally challenging in their own ways.

it’s so much harder to get a shot in soccer then it is in hockey. Once you get it into the offensive zone in hockey it’s almost gaurenteed that you’ll get a shot. In soccer there’s usually a max of 5-10 shots a game for one team so there aren’t as many chances to score and the odds of actually doing it are slim. Try it sometime it’s hard.

Because they run around like speds for 3 hours doing nothing so when something happens, its a big deal!
Now involve some hitting(aka hockey)and you got yourself a sport. -

I ref both hockey and soccer, so I have a little better understanding. Soccer score lines often match hockey score lines. 3-1, 4-2, 1-0, etc… Both are low scoring games, but for different reasons. In soccer, it is very rare for a striker to get within 15 feet of the goal. It is also rare to get a shot off, let alone through to the keeper or goal. But to put it into better perspective, here some numbers. Puck width: 3″, ball width: 27.5″. Hockey goal: 72″x50″, soccer goal: 288″x96″. This gets a bit confusing, so bare with me…
Hockey – 72*50=3600/3=1200
Soccer – 288*96=27648/27.5=1005
Even though a soccer goal is bigger, the ratio of puck/ball size to goal area is greater for hockey. If a hockey goal was made to the same size as a soccer goal (as well as the puck), the puck would still be smaller than a soccer ball. Not to mention the the use of pads, blocker, and glove.
So I guess your question should be “what’s so great about scoring a goal in hockey?” since, statically, it is more difficult to score in soccer.
Besides, when was the last time you’ve seen a girl take her shirt off after scoring a goal in hockey…?

A soccer game is most likely a close game like 1-0 instead of 18-0.
